According to a new policy of the Higher Education Department (HED), college teachers will be awarded with scholarships for which a total of Rs 150 million will be allocated.
However this plan will go in force from the next fiscal year, sources said.
The Faculty Development Program has been initiated by the government after the Higher Education Commission (HEC) decided to slash a good proportion of the teachers’ salaries.
HED Deputy Director (Planning) Syed Ashfaq Hussain told the journalists that college teachers would be asked to apply to universities of their choice and scholarships would be provided for this purpose by the HED on merit only.
He further said that a similar course was in the offing for college principals and college newly recruited teachers at the Directorate of Staff Development for which funds of Rs 60 million would be allotted. He said that capacity building and training programs for staffs were also on the drawing board.
