Since May 11, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government tried to create an impression of financial prudence by introducing “austerity measures” to conserve resources.
However, in its first direction to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding a “development plan”, the PM house asked the civic agency to reinitiate work on a project aimed to give the prime minister direct and secure access from the PM Secretariat to a heliport located at President House.
According to media reports, the plan covers the construction of a half-kilometre long road between the PM Secretariat and the Presidency. Reliable sources at the PM Secretariat said that on Monday, CDA officials visited the area where the road is to be constructed.
“The project aims to provide a hassle-free approach to the heliport for the prime minister,” the official added.
A senior CDA Planning Wing official confirmed the development but asked not to be named. “The military secretary to the prime minister contacted the CDA chief recently and asked for the road to be built,” the official added.
He said that the project was in its initial stage and the authority had only completed a survey for the proposed road.
“The road will be around 600 metres in length while its width will be approximately 10 metres. It will go from the PM Secretariat and pass north of the Supreme Court’s car park before getting to the Presidency,” he added.
A senior Engineering Wing official said costing for the project has yet to be done, but estimated the total cost of the project would be around Rs10 million. He added that a similar plan was floated in 2009 by former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani.
“PM Gilani also wanted direct access to the heliport from his office, but the project was withdrawn for reasons unknown,” he said, adding that the cost of the project at that time was estimated at around Rs3.8 million.
“Since 2009, the cost of construction material and manpower witnessed a record 300 per cent increase. Now in 2013, the project will cost between Rs10 and Rs12 million,” said the official, who enjoys 30 years of experience with road infrastructure.
However, the official , who visited the site thrice in 2009, said a land depression on the north side of the Presidency could further escalate the cost of the project as the ground will have to be levelled before a road is built.
Senior PML-N leader Senator Mushahidullah Khan declined to answer the question about PML-N government claims of austerity and the actual situation. “As I am unaware of the project, I can’t comment.”
if due to security reasons he needs, go ahead.
I would rather have my taxes put to better use… if he is so scared, he needs to resign!
Thats the best solution, I second you….
If he has security issue he should sit in home not PM house.
Why so much burdon on common people when you have funds for "Shah Kharchiya"
Raiwind needs security?? Maryam Nawaz needs it? Hassan nawaz needs it? Rabia Imran needs it? Give me a break
🙂
Nothing wrong! Great!
Lol..Jaisi qaum waisa leader muslat hua. I am bewildered at the comments
We want electricity, we want drinking water, we want gas, we want peace or we want them go home.
Great Pmln 🙂
Jalnay walay jalo….
saaraa mulk jal rahaa hay, tum jese jiyaloon aur un ke leaderoon ki waja se. So we expect stupid comments like these from the Jiyalas of PML-N.
If he wants it out of his own purse, go ahead.
Khazana is full for such expenditures.
do all of the hospitals also have one?
It is just 600 yards road and it makes a facility sharing possible. It will significantly add to PM's and other dignitaries security during transits. It will also save lot of public's time and will provide them countless hassle-free rides on the roads that otherwise would be blocked for PM. Given the minimal cost this project should have been undertaken much earlier.
You must be the other 0.005% of Pakistanis.
JUST 600 Yards? – PM's & others dignitaries? – Minimal cost? How about dead bodies falling left, right and center all over the country by the hour and now tourism fudged as well. And, blackouts, water, health, food and in a nutshell simple breating shortage abund.
But, I am not surprised. The last time he came into power – as a first he had for himself a private, royal jet. Only Musharraf gave it to PIA and preferred to travel ordinary.
Have you seen how he lives in Raiwind? BTW it is all over the internet.
I wonder why we always holler "God bless Pakistan" when we ourselves curse it with leaches, snakes and hyenas’.
Ravages # 3 – enjoy yourself !!!!!!
You seem to be believing in some utopian rule. Be pragmatic. Security of a PM is an inevitable expense that a state is required to expend for its chief executive to function. Constructing a small piece of road will add to his security. Plus it may also save hassle of the public!
But perhaps I understand you are fascinated by a traitor who sold national interest, prestige and what not for his personal gains…
Past sixties none has impressed me and BTW that includes Mush. However Nawaz’s and Bhutto’s triple ravish over the masses of Pakistan have been hells in succession on the loose.
This guy I have special dislike for – for when he robbed foreign Pakistanis of their hard earned forex at huge loss while export protecting his and his cohorts wealth. Mush on the other hand made part effort to compensate the same wretched masses to some extent. That is just tip of the iceberg. There is billions worth of treasure troves in their hold out there abroad that must be dug out of these hoarders and dispensed with in favor of the poor masses.
Pragmatism I should appreciate much better because my home is the greater world and I keep my eyes open and focused. I passed the threshold of hating myself being a Pakistani born some years ago. Now, I tend to make an effort to disassociate myself of the “ghin”.
Clannish you guys are and that is another curse our brethren must be rebuked by !!!!!
There appears to be some contractor who is looking for this one.I thought Arains sell vegetables.
At least not the national interest, prestige and their own citizens for peanuts!!!

Good project. Should not be criticized!!!! NS must be active to supervise all projects in Capital and other major cities. He needs to save his life and time. 10M is not a big deal… Go a head, approved!!!
