The Embassy of Brazil will hold the second exhibition of Brazilian Documentaries from June 27-30 at 6pm at the embassy showcasing four awarded documentaries.
The documentaries portray different aspects of Brazilian political, social, and cultural life. The first movie, called the “Mystery of Samba”, is a testimony of the strength of Brazilian music. It showcases the journey of renowned Brazilian singer Marisa Monte, through the history and everyday life of the most traditional samba school of Rio de Janeiro. The second movie, “Nelson Freire” tells the story of the boy-wonder from the countryside of Minas Gerais who became the most important living Brazilian classical pianist. This is a movie about a talented man and his lifetime dedication to art and music. The third movie, “Master, a Copacabana building” director Eduardo Coutinho, one of the most renowned documentary filmmakers of his generation, shows the insightful reality of the lower middle class in Rio de Janeiro from a unique perspective The final documentary, “Entreatos” directed by João Moreira Salles showcases the struggle for presidency (2002) of candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from a closer perspective. A historic moment in the political history of Brazil, told from a perspective that was unseen by the general public.
