Former Supreme Court Bar Association president and senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday said former president Pervez Musharraf violated the constitution twice and a treason case should be initiated against him, adding that his aides who are currently part of the federal cabinet should also be brought to justice.
According to media reports, Ahsan, welcoming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to try Musharraf for treason said all democracy supporters and those upholding the law would second the premier’s decision.
Ahsan stressed that action should also be taken against those who are currently part of Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet and had sided with Musharraf in the past.
Ahsan said Sharif would have to think about the fate of those ministers who are currently part of his cabinet but who, at the time had endorsed Musharraf’s steps instead of resigning.
Without naming PML-N leader Zahid Hamid, he said if Musharraf gave a statement in court that he was not alone in the November 3, 2007 measures, problems could be created for Nawaz Sharif.
Ahsan said he had always stood against dictators and was the only person who had countered four dictators.
