As murder probe deepens, Altaf asks workers not to lose hope

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain on Tuesday claimed that international and local powers were making efforts to “break him”, and called on his party’s supporters to maintain unity in their ranks.

Addressing members of the MQM Coordination Committee in London and Pakistan, Hussain said that he was aware that there was a feeling of confusion among MQM workers and the general public on some news reports.

“The MQM has been facing difficulties and hardships for the past 35 years. Thousands of MQM workers were martyred and many more put behind bars but the MQM could not be broken by injustices and oppression. The MQM workers braved difficult situations and frustrated every conspiracy against the party,” he said, adding that the MQM would continue its peaceful struggle according to law.

IMRAN FAROOQ MURDER PROBE

Meanwhile in London, the Scotland Yard’s Counter-Terrorism Unit is interrogating some Pakistani political workers and a woman, reportedly the wife of a senior politician, in the investigations into Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case.

The police have released on bail 52-year-old Iftikhar Hussain, a British citizen of Pakistani origin, who was detained by counter-terrorism officers as he arrived on a flight from Canada and was taken to a West London police station on Monday.

The released person is reportedly a close relative of a top MQM leader.

The arrest came after the Canadian police informed the British police about Hussain’s flight from Toronto to London.

The phone SIMS of the suspect were taken into custody and the data collected brought some important information in the limelight. Apart from the involvement of some political figures, money laundering was also found to be an important objective for the murder.
