Pakistan Cricket Board’s Interim Chairman Najam Sethi has given the selection committee free hand in the selection of the senior and junior teams but with a condition that they would be answerable to the team’s performance
In his first press conference as the caretaker chairman, he said that the national squad for the West Indies tour would be announced within four to five days.
The former caretaker chief minister Punjab, Sethi took formal charge of the PCB and put his strategy of running the country’s cricket straight, saying that he would not intervene in the selection of cricket team as the boss of the PCB.
“The selection committee, captain, vice captain, manager and coach will have to take credit for a win and responsibility of the defeat. They would be garlanded and would be question for the poor performance,” he maintained.
On the ICC meeting, he said that Pakistan’s representation in the meeting was necessary and he would soon leave for London with Subhan Ahmed, PCB Chief Executive Officer. He said that Director Intikhab Alam is already present in London.
The PCB chief said that changes in the team management were imminent and a decision would be taken by Tuesday in this regard.
He said efforts would have to be made to explore means of earnings and cut expenses of the PCB. Sethi added that the PCB budget for the next year was to be prepared before June 30.
The new chairman said the task of bringing back international cricket to Pakistan is the responsibility of the permanent chairman and the foreign teams will start visiting Pakistan.
He said that he has asked the chief financial officer of the PCB to prepare a report to cut down the expense of the Board. “The CFO has briefed me on the financial aspects of the Board and we discussed ways and means to prepare the next budget of the Board which is likely to be given a final shape by the end of this month.”

The bowlers’ list is still headed by West Indies’ Sunil Narine with Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal in second place.
Meanwhile, in ICC ODI Player Rankings for Batsmen, England batsman Jonathan Trott moved up a place to fourth. Trott scored 229 runs from five games to end as the second highest run-getter in the tournament.
The batting list continues to be headed by South Africa captain AB de Villiers, with teammate Hashim Amla in second place and India’s Virat Kohli in third position.
India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who ended the tournament as the highest run-getter after scoring 363 runs, has jumped 21 places to a career-best 29th. Dhawan’s efforts with the bat not only fetched him the Player of the Tournament award but also earned him the Golden Bat trophy for scoring the most runs of the tournament.
