Appointment of senior analyst and former Punjab caretaker chief minister Najam Sethi as interim chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remained the focus of criticism in the National Assembly (NA) on Monday.
Sethi was on Sunday appointed the interim chairman of the PCB.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the appointment.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on a point of order, PTI Deputy Parliamentary Leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi questioned the appointment.
“What are his qualifications to make him the PCB chief?” he asked.
“Was Sethi being rewarded for certain services he rendered while being the CM? Why were the names of cricket specialist identified before the IHC suddenly ignored?” Qureshi said.
PPP leader Aijaz Jakhrani said a person who had no link with cricket had been appointed the PCB chairman.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Sethi had been appointed as the ad-hoc chairman and a permanent chairman would replace him soon.
The interior minister assured the House that a personality with good reputation would be appointed and he would also have the requisite know how of cricket.
Replying to a calling attention notice moved by Aasiya Nasir and others regarding stripping naked of three Christian women and their parading on a trivial matter in Chak No 21‚ Kasur‚ Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid on behalf of the law minister said the matter had been compromised between the parties.
He said it was an isolated incident and hoped such incidents would not recur. He said the matter was presently sub-judice.
