Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Saturday ordered cancellation of nearly 36,000 weapon licenses issued in the last government’s tenure, to overcome the law and order situation.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on police reforms. The meeting was jointly presided by Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif.
Matters relating to law and order‚ strategy to control crimes‚ and reforms in police were discussed in the meeting.
According to the prime minister, curbing licenses and mobilising police force would help the current law and order situation in the country.
The premier took part in an aerial surveillance with the CM prior to a briefing with police officials regarding police weapons.
In the same briefing, the PM spoke of plans to equip the police force better and hire new judges in the future.
Earlier, to help the security situation, additional 500 sub-inspectors were hired in Punjab.
