Not so fast Customs seizes Rs100 million smuggled gold

Pakistan Customs on Friday seized smuggled gold worth Rs 100 million at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport. One smuggler, Waqas, brought 23.5 kilogrammes of gold from Dubai through Shaheen Airline’s flight NL-224 but was captured immediately upon reaching Islamabad airport, customs officials reported.

“The total weight and estimated worth of gold seized amounted to 23.5kg and Rs 100 million respectively in the local market,” informed Customs Deputy Collector Ghulam Ali Malik at the airport.
He added that a company booked this gold under the name of Gold Enterprises Company. While the relevant documents were submitted at Peshawar airport the smuggler tried to smuggle it through Islamabad airport.
According to Waqas, he was merely a carrier and was ignorant of the procedures involved in transporting gold. However, an enquiry has been launched after registering a case against the held smuggler, according to officials at the airport.
ARRESTED: Police on Friday arrested 27 outlaws from different parts of the city and recovered a stolen bike, 1.20 kilogram hashish, 5 pistols along with ammunitions from their possession.
According to police spokesman, Aabpara police arrested two accused Ikram Ullah and Boota Massih involved in robbery and five more persons involved in fraudulent cash prize schemes, namely Yameen, Mohsin, Faisal, Adil and Kamran.
CIA police arrested two accused Nadeem Ali and Mir Baz and recovered one stolen motorcycle from their possession carrying registration number RIK-3795. Golra police arrested six persons Altaf, Asif, Khan, Sajid, Noor, Muhammad and Taseen-ud-Din on charges of installing illegal CNG kits in their vehicles. Five gamblers were also arrested in sector I-9/4 and Rs6000 were recovered. Sabzi Mandi police arrested drug pusher Nasir Khan recovering 1.20 kilogram hashish from him while three accused Adeel, Anwar Haq and Muhammad Naveed were arrested by Bani Gala police and recovered two pistols. Nilor police also arrested two accused Qasir Mehmood and Shahzad Mehmood, two pistols and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Police station Koral arrested four accused Salamat, Umraiz Ali, Khalid Hussain and Arshad Mehmood who were involved in installation of illegal CNG kits in vehicles. A pistol and 10 bullets were recovered from Faisal Mehmood who was also arrested by the police.
Lohi Bher police arrested 3 Shehryar, Javaid and Muhammad Bilal on charges of illegal slander. Cases have been registered against the accused and the police are investigating the matter further. Islamabad Police, SSP, Yaseen Farooq appreciated the performance of the police department and directed them to remain vigilant in order to perform effectively
