The Canada Pakistan Business Council (CPBC) held its 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Awards Night on Friday. This year the event was well attended by Canadians and Pakistanis. The respectable premier of Ontario, Hon. Kathleen Wynne was the chief guest.
Also in attendance were the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada Akbar Zeb, the Consul General of Pakistan to Canada Muhammad Nafees Zakaria, members of the Pakistan diplomatic corp, Canadian Senator Salma Attaullah Jaan, Federal Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis, Talat Altaf Khan, and mayors of Markham, Richmond Hill and Brampton in addition to members of the Canadian foreign and trade offices.
Each year CPBC takes pride in honouring distinguished individuals who served the community and contributed to building societies. This year, it was their honour to present Souriya Anwar, President SOS Children Villages Pakistan, with the Humanitarian of the Year Award at their annual gala. This award was presented to recognise the tireless contribution made by Anwar in building the concept in 1975 into 45 thriving projects in Pakistan today, with 20 projects exclusively for orphans in need of a home and shelter.
SOS International is the largest orphan charity in the world, with active programs and projects in 133 countries and territories of the world. The Pakistan villages are the only in the world (outside of Europe) that are completely self-financed, through local endeavours.
To facilitate the trip, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) sponsored her airline ticket to Canada.
Excellent achievements of our dynamic leader, May God give her long life, Ameen. This award only signifies how hard she has worked for the children of this nation.
