Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday gave away a cash award worth Rs 2.5 million to Samina Baig in recognition of her marvel as the first Pakistani woman to scale the Mount Everest. The PM also congratulated Samina Baig on her historic achievement. He said that his government would promote mountaineering in the country. Samina Baig had called on the Prime Minister at his office this afternoon. Lauding her courage and determination, Nawaz said that Pakistani women were not only courageous but also have the ability to face challenges. He said further her expedition would go a long way in instilling confidence in the womenfolk of the remote areas. Samina shared her feelings about conquering the 8,848m summit.
Since the money has not been given from anybody's personal funds, therefore an appropriate heading should have been, "Government awards Rs 2.5 million to Samina Baig." This is my money as taxpayer and not PM's.
