In an effort to expand business, commerce and trade relations between Pakistan and United States (US), a special conference entitled the ‘Pakistan US Business Conference’ is being organized in Dubai on June 25, 2013, which will be attended by top companies from United States. Pakistan’s Commerce Ministry is working closely with the US Embassy in Islamabad in order to make the conference a success. Pakistan’s side will be represented by Federal Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif and Ambassador Javed Malik who is already in United Arab Emirates (UAE) to coordinate with Pakistan’s embassy and Ministry of Commerce. More than 100 top US companies have confirmed their presence at the conference and the focus of discussions and presentations will be energy and agro business. Pakistan would be making a case to better market access whereas US companies would be invited to invest in Pakistan, which offers lucrative returns. The conference comes at an important time when the new democratic government has taken office in Pakistan which is likely to give a fresh boost to efforts from both sides since both would be keen to make some progress. The conference is also likely to reflect positively on the Pakistan-US relationship as it would highlight that both countries are cooperating and working together on more than just security matters and are in fact engaged in positive efforts to increase bilateral trade and seek new avenues of bilateral cooperation.
