KP govt postpones annual polo festival

For the first time in the history of the country, the famous Shandur Polo festival was postponed by Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) government.

According to an official handout, the KP Minister for Tourism, Sports, Youths Affairs and Archeology, Mehmood Khan announced the postponement of famous Shandur Polo festival 2013 which was scheduled to be held from July 2-4 at Shandur.

The handout further said that the government of Gilgit Baltistan had informed that floods had severely damaged roads situated on tributaries of Ghizer River, spread over one kilometer connecting Ghizer district of Gilgit Baltistan with Shandur. The minister said that new dates for the festival would be announced after Eidul Fitr in consultation with the government of Gilgit Baltistan.

Meanwhile, Mehmood Khan expressed concern over the unrest of the employees of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and asked the federal government to transfer all the assets of PTDC to Tourism Corporation of KP as it had already been devolved under the 18th Amendment

The minister hoped that the issue would be resolved with mutual understanding.
