During Tuesday’s session of the National Assembly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Dr Shireen Mazari drew the speaker’s attention to the issue of US drone attacks on Pakistani territory.

Mazari said drone attacks could not be responded to with mere protests, stressing that the government would have to adopt more significant measures. She said even the former Pakistan Peoples Party-led government protested against drone attacks.

The PTI leader directed a question to the assembly members as to what would be the stance of the government if the US refused to stop the attacks.

Responding to Mazari’s question, national security advisor and former finance minister, Sartaj Aziz, said Pakistan’s concerns on drone attacks had been conveyed to the US government through the foreign office.

He assured the assembly that strong protests would be held to increase the pressure, adding that if that did not work, the government would then turn to other means.

Moreover, Aziz said only one drone attack had been held on Pakistani soil since the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government took power.

  1. How sweet of the Dr. Sahiba to demand such aggressive actions from the Federal Govt. when the PTI led KPK Govt has increased the Afghan Trade by 1% which in reality means that all the NATO containers will be paying more to the PTI Govt to pass through KPK enroute to Afghanistan. So while PTI does not mind the extra dollar coming their way they should not act as simpletons while pressurizing the Fed Govt.

  2. Being in opposition is always is easy. It makes you popular, gets you the publicity and embarasses the ruling party. Dr Mazhari is voicing her party's favourite mantra. "stop the drones or shoot them down" Let us focus on our home grown problems first. Pakistan is in a death dance with itself. Our borders are not secure. Our villages ,cities, universities .mosques , hospitals are being bombed everyday. Fear is pervasive. The Army and the security forces are suffering from fatigue factor and harking for strong leadership. USA is not going to stop it.s drone attacks . Preemption is it,s declared policy and the target is Pakistan. Pakistan too gains from it whethet you accept it or not! Who got rid of Mehsud? Let us first win the preventive war at home before we ask the only"indispensable" nation to stop pre emption. India too is toying with the idea of pre emption or preventive strike. With the situation in Pakistan anything is possible. Time is not for scoring points but standing shoulder to shoulder witheach other to root out the curse of culture of violence at our doorsteps.

  3. All Pakistan needs to do to stop drone strikes is to stop harbouring Muslim fanatics.
Oh, that's most of you then. Ah, problem.

    • my dear i respect ur opinion, but i must correct u that if v were all fanatics thn v would not have sacrificed more thn 50000 people in the war on terror. our casualities are more thn the ISAF/NATO casualities in Afghanistan. U happen to be a victim of anti pakistani and probably anti muslim indoctrination by electronic media channels like CNN and FOX news etc. My advice to u is, u must frame ur opinion based on facts rather than assumptions.

  4. .
The new Government policy is to set up madrasa's for training 'suicide birds' that would fly onto the drones head-on …
