At least 20 people were killed on Tuesday when a loud explosion ripped through a funeral procession near Mardan in restive northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a senior police official said.

About 40 other people were also injured in the blast, said Deputy Inspector General Mardan Jaffar Khan.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial lawmaker from PK-27, Imran Mohmand, who was also present during funeral prayers, was reported to be severely injured in the explosion.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the PTI lawmaker succumbed to his injuries. However, neither party representatives nor police officials have yet confirmed his exact condition.

Police said the funeral of a man named Abdullah, who was killed in a firing incident the previous day, was being held in Sher Garh, located 20 kilometres from Mardan town.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Maulana Mohammad Qasim was leading the funeral prayers when the loud explosion hit the procession.

Details regarding the exact nature of the explosion were still not clear.

No militant group immediately claimed responsibility of the attack.

  1. How more bloodshed ?.Why still same law and order situation even new government already taken charge?.Why actions are not taken against terrorists?.Why government is not naming terrorists sponsoring states especially India along with Afghanistan and other counties involved in terrorism in Pakistan. Government should scrap all security related polices made by previous governments which have given nothing to country but bloodshed. Government should make new security policy just like other counties especially counter terrorism unit and force specially trained for controlling terrorism.

  2. First and foremost, we send our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of those killed in this act of terror. We sincerely hope their loved ones will find the strength to deal with this tragedy. We also wish to see the injured make a quick and speedy recovery. Incidents like these emphasize the importance of shared cooperation in regards to our peace objectives in the region. Those who are working against our peace efforts continue to send the region into chaos and frenzy with these acts of terror. We fully support the government of Pakistan in its fight against these extremist organizations. We share a common stance against terrorism, and it only makes sense to work together to negate the common threat. We hope to continue our partnership and remain unified for the sake of stabilizing the region.

  3. PTI Welcome to death row ,deadly warning to PTI elected representatives. This is the way leadership is harassed by first sweeping small figures around them.I hope warning has been reached to injured Imran Khan

  4. Imran Khan and Nawaz Shareef had one thing in common and that was their open and tacit support for terrorists, especially those who do this act in the name of Islam. Now both of them have a moral responsibility to talk to these mad criminals to stop their barbaric and wanton attacks on Muslims.
