In 2013, Pakistanis voted for change. This change is necessitated and deeply awaited in every sphere of life including; law and order, health facilities, provision of quality education, employment opportunities, access to justice, business environment and tax policies. Amid huge expectations from the masses, the new government in Islamabad tabled the federal budget 2013-2014 in the second week of June, 2013. During the recent past, the nation was bracing itself for heavy tax measures planned to be introduced by way of a presidential ordinance. While the financial press and rumour mill constantly releasing inside stories suggesting that such planned measures would be incorporated in the upcoming Finance Bill 2013, the business community expects bold but right decisions from the government this time, that are aimed at uplifting the sluggish business environment across the country. Therefore this year’s federal budget is certainly poised to mark an important national event.
