HEC directs universities to tighten security

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday directed all universities to adopt extra security measures in lieu of the recent blast at a university in Quetta.

Chairman HEC Dr Javaid R. Laghari said that he wrote a letter to the vice chancellors of all universities to take proper security measures for protecting their students, faculty and staff from any unfortunate incident.

The chairman said that the HEC would extend all possible support in this regard.

He condemned the recent bomb blast in the Sardar Bahadur KhanWomenUniversity which killed many female students.

In a meeting with the Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Vice Chancellor Sultana Baloch, he termed the blast a plot to derail education in the province.

“HEC and the newly elected government will continue to serve Balochistan’s people by promoting higher education, especially for females,” he assured.

According to Leghari, “it is very difficult to control suicide blasts but we have to strengthen existing security measures in all universities to protect employees and students.”
