A 50-foot breach in Narli Canal occurred on Monday, inundating the surrounding low lying areas and ruining hundreds of acres of cultivated land. The breach flooded populated areas and destroyed standing crops. Many people were forced to evacuate their homes, which were engulfed with up to five feet of water. In response, the affected population held a protest against the Irrigation Department. They blamed the department for neglecting to properly maintain the canal, which resulted in the incident. Wahid Buksh Chachar, a sub-divisional officer of the department, said that repair work on the damaged portion of the canal was underway, and it would be revamped soon.
