The power distribution formula needs to be reviewed, Attorney General (AG) Munir A Malik said on Tuesday while filing the government’s reply on the load shedding in the Supreme Court (SC).

The reply said there were contradictions in statistics of the Ministry of Water and Power and the APTMA with regards to distribution of power and other aspects. “Consensus has not been developed on the formula of equal power distribution so far due to which load shedding is increasing day by day.”

He said power production stood at 10,483 megawatts at present while the power shortfall was 6,728 megawatts. “Electricity is preserved by NTDC after it is generated and it is then distributed by it among power distribution companies. However, no record is available with the power distribution companies about the distribution of electricity,” the government reply stated.

“The Ministry of Water and Power evolves the load shedding plan,” the reply said, adding that all the industries including cement, were being supplied electricity. “The government wants load shedding to end as soon as possible. All necessary steps are being taken to overcome it,” the reply stated.
