Supreme Court Justice Ejaz Afzal has remarked that no crime could be committed without the help of police and if police wanted, they could perform feats that were impossible for others to perform.

He passed the remarks during the course of hearing of a case of a missing person, Idrees Abbasi, by a two-member SC bench headed by Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on Monday.

Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked, “Blank reports will serve no purpose. We want missing persons found. He should be presented in the court. Failure to recover missing persons in the presence of so many evidences is a question mark on the proficiency of police. If someone is obstructing the process, the court be informed about it.”

SP Saddar Wahid Khattak and Arif Abbasi, father of the missing person, appeared in court. The police also presented a report in the court.

Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked, “You are giving a blank report. Where is Idrees Abbasi? Police told the court that nothing could be found from Hafiz Tahir and Shahid.”

Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked, “Evidence is not found in a retailer’s shop. They will have to work and then something will come to light. He has not started his work as a police officer so far.”

He inquired of the SP what action be taken against him.

The officer said investigations had been made from several people. Justice Ejaz inquired who was impeding his work and who was creating difficulties.

The SP said he had visited an intelligence agency’s office and had contacted former Fateh Jang SHO.

“Hafiz Tahir and Hafiz Rashid have been included in the investigation but no headway has been made so far.”

Justice Ejaz remarked, “You have not succeeded in achieving your objective. A lot can be done if you desire. One person is missing and his recovery is one of the duties of the SC.”

The officer said, “The word failure is no where written in my dictionary.”

Justice Ejaz remarked, “Evidence in respect of a person who has been picked up by an agency and has gone missing is always available. Reach out to the person who is behind the offence. There is some cause for a crime. If you ascertain that, the problem can be addressed a lot.”

Abbasi said, “Police had said that Shahid would be released after recovery of Idrees and they had released him after nine months.”

The court allowed time to police for recovery of missing person Idrees Abbasi until the expiry of summer vacation.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until after summer vacation.
