Jamaate Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan on Sunday stressed the federal government to immediately convene an All Parties Conference (APC) with cooperation of governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to devise a strategy against the menace of terrorism.
Talking to media personnel after addressing JI office bearers from Lahore, he said the federal government would have to take up the issue of terrorist attack at Quaid’s residency in Ziarat, attacks in Quetta and Karachi, and frame a policy to deal with the problem, giving high priority to dialogue with Taliban.
Hasan said the attack at Ziarat residency, a historic building associated with the Quaid, and the girls’ bus in Quetta, were highly serious matters which had brought a bad name to the country, adding that involvement of Indian intelligence RAW could not be ruled out.
He said JI had since long been advising rulers to conduct talks with Taliban for restoration of peace in the country.
It was ironical, he said, that while the US itself was holding talks with the Taliban, Islamabad was prevented from adopting the same course, and whenever there was some headway in that direction, Washington sabotaged the process.
If the new government did not take a quick decision in this regard, the masses would be justified to form an opinion that it was unable to take any bold step that could hurt US interests.
He said the new strategy should also ensure an end to military operations, drone attacks and the missing persons’ problem. He said if the rulers’ attitude did not change, the masses would be disappointed.
Hasan said the JI had accepted election results only to save the country from chaos, otherwise the whole nation knew about the transparency of elections held in Karachi, Hyderabad and FATA, where JI’s mandate was stolen.
He said the nation had hoped that elections this time would be fair and free and the role of agencies would finally end. However, history had been repeated again, he said, and pointed out that the Supreme Court had already exposed agencies for involvement in different issues.
The JI chief said Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) was keen to join the Sindh government in order to hide its crimes and to escape from the clutches of law since it could not afford to remain out of power.
In the previous government, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had provided the MQM an opportunity to carry on with its crimes. With the MQM joining the Sindh government again, Hasan said target killings, extortion and recovery of dead bodies from bags would begin once again.
