IHC orders ANF to probe medical practitioner’s harrassment

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Sunday directed the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Director General to assign probe into smuggling charges against a doctor to an honest officer and to ensure the accused is protected against harassment.

Justice Noor-ul-Haq Qureshi was hearing the petition filed in this regard by a medical practioner Syed Azhar Ali.

The petitioner contended that his former employee, Abid Khan, had implicated him in false cases, including lodging of 11 First Investigation Reports (FIRs) after he was terminated in 2009 over malpractices.

He claimed that on September 24 2012, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) certified that Ali Azhar had been acting illegally against the petitioner and that criminal proceedings were to be started against Abid on the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The petitioner said that the respondent had lately filed four applications with the ANF alleging that Azhar had smuggled heroin from Hong Kong to Islamabad.

The petitioner alleged that he was continuously being harassed and detained based on these false allegations.

He further alleged that ANF personnel took his laptop and asked for an illegal gratification of Rs 10 million, threatening to implicate him in false criminal cases if he refused.
