The sale of Thadal, a local nutritious drink, is at its peak as the weather has turned quite hot since the last week.
Vendors are selling “Thadal” at every nook and corner of the city. The poor cannot afford most of soft beverages because their prices are beyond their reach, but Thadal is a most popular item as its rates are comparatively low and affordable. “Thadal” is considered as one of the most renowned drink of Hyderabad. It is a sweet drink which is famous among the locals. The vendors display and prepare the traditional summer drink (Thadal) to attract the customers at their roadside setup. They appear very happy selling the traditional drink and earning their livelihood. Talking to this scribe, a consumer of Thadal, Shams, said that among the soft beverages Thadal was comparatively cheaper and therefore, it is within the reach of common people. “Now buying fresh juice is not possible for a common man, however, they buy Thadal because of its reasonable price.” Ahmad, a roadside vendor of Thadal in Qasimabad, told this scribe that Thadal sherbat was mostly used in summer and its prices rarely shot up.
He said the hot weather drink is made with ingredients like char magaz, khashkhash, pepper, almonds, pistachios and pumpkin seeds.
Only half an hour is required for making a glass of appetising drink which costs just Rs 15 to 20 per glass and is easy on the pocket of all and sundry. He also said that he was earning a handsome amount these days. According to health experts, Thadal is an energy drink and provides necessary energy to the body.
