Encroachments reign under CDA’s nose

In blatant violation of Capital Development Authority (CDA) rules, many kiosk allottees have encroached on land in different sectors.

“They have extended their kiosks beyond the approved 10×10 size by additional constructions, for example, an allottee in Sector I-9 has grabbed CDA land and illegally added sheds, huts and a car park to enhance his restaurant business,” a citizen Talha Nadeem informed.

Talha maintained that such land grabbing was impossible without the officials’ cooperation.

According to a survey, another kiosk allottee in I-10 Markaz has also illegally occupied some parts of the park nearby, while other encroachers have set up stalls on the footpaths.

Further, another kiosk allottee in the green belt between Sabzi Mandi and Sector I-10/1 has established a tyre shop and a hotel by encroaching on surrounding land.

Similar violations could be found, especially in green belts of other sectors including G-9, G-8, H-8 and Islamabad Railway Station.

Sector I-8 resident Mehmood Khan said that the previous government had authorised these kiosk allocations and they were politically motivated.

He demanded that all such allotments be reviewed and cancelled.

A CDA official informed that the chairman had established a high level committee against encroachments.

He said that notices had already been issued to such kiosk allottees for violating the law.
