A complete shutter down strike was observed in Balochistan capital Quetta on Sunday against the deadly suicide bombings that killed 27 people and left several others critically injured.

The provincial government had announced a day’s mourning against the brutal killing of 14 female students of Bahadur KhanWomenUniversity, the Quetta deputy commissioner, four nurses, four security personnel, one doctor and two passers-by.

Banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi had claimed responsibility for the bomb blasts and said the first blast in the university bus was a suicide bombing carried out by a female attacker.

An air of gloom hovered over the provincial capital a day after the barbaric attacks.

Locals were questioning motive behind the attack, saying the students attacked were mostly Baloch, but were still targeted for sectarian reasons.

The national flag flew at half-mast above all government and private buildings, as the Balochistan government announced an official mourning against the bus and hospital attacks.

The shutter-down call was given by Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Anjuman-e-Tajiran Balochistan and was supported by other political parities.

All shopping centres, business centres and markets in the city remained shut throughout the day, while traffic plying on roads also remained thin.

The Balochistan Nursing Federation and doctors also announced a three-day mourning over the killing of nurses and a medical officer at BolanMedicalComplexHospital.

The Quetta deputy commissioner, Abdul Mansoor Kakar was also laid to rest in Kasi graveyard early on Sunday morning while other victims, including eight female students, were buried in Quetta.

Hundreds of people including family members, relatives and citizens attended the funeral prayers offered at native towns of the deceased.

The case of the attack has been registered with Brewery police station under Anti-Terrorist Act.

Initial investigation reports identified the female suicide bomber as Aisha Siddiqa.

Police have also included the injured bus driver into investigation, saying that a captured terrorist was also under investigation.

PkMAP parliamentary leader Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal strongly condemned the attacks in Quetta and sabotage on Quaid-e-Azam Residency in Ziarat.

“No religion allows attacking women and patients under any circumstances,” he said, adding that there was no justification for such acts of terrorism and the elements behind these could not be called human, Muslims or even Baloch or Pashtun.

Condemnation:

Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon strongly condemned the deadly attacks targeting a bus, a hospital and historic Ziarat residency.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban Ki-Moon said no cause justified such violence, and noted with dismay that “violence against women and educators has increased in recent years, the aim being to keep girls away from attaining the basic right to education”.

Ban called on the government “to do all possible to bring the perpetrators to justice” and expressed the UN’s solidarity “in the face of continued terrorist violence in Pakistan”.

The secretary-general also sent his condolences to the victims, their families, and the government of Pakistan.

  2. Shame on Pakistanis. It is business as usual as again innocent souls were murdered by the Jhangils, barbarians and shaitans. One would have expected the pakistanis to come out in the streets to condemn this action. But the media and people seem to not care. let us see what Nawaz and co. are doing or are they will be puppets of the real rulers of pakistan-these shaitans who kill for no reason. May ALLAH swt rtemove his blessings on all these barbarians, and their supporters
