Flash flood washed away six persons at Speen Qabr area in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency on Saturday while a man was killed during heavy downpour in a Punjab district.
According to details, a vehicle was crossing a nullah when it got stuck in floodwater, resulting in the deaths of three children and three women. Search for one dead body is underway.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Disaster Management Authority Director General Syed Zaheerul Islam said that the authority is in contact with all relevant agencies to monitor flood situation.
He said that 25,000 tents and other necessary items are available for flood victims, adding that motor boats have also been dispatched to different locations in Nowshera and Peshawar to evacuate the people from flood hit areas.
According to Flood Cell Peshawar‚ Kabul River at Nowshera is in high flood. River Kabul at Attock‚ River Shah Alam at Takhtabad and River Adezai at Adezai Brige are in medium flood.
Indus River at Tarbela‚ River Panjkora at Dir‚ River Swat at Khawazakhela and Munda Headworks‚ River Khiali and River Naguman at Charsadda Road are in low flood while rests of the rivers are flowing normal.
Meanwhile, at least one person was killed and several others were injured in separate rain-related incidents in various cities of Punjab on Saturday.
In Gujarwal area of Sahiwal, a man died while three others were injured when the roof of their house suddenly came down as the area received heavy rainfall. Locals dug out the body and the injured from the rubble and shifted them to a hospital.
Meanwhile, more than 20 people were injured in similar incidents in different cities of the province.
The heavy rainfall inundated different localities in various districts of Punjab prompting the concerned district administrations to declare emergency and allocate beds in hospitals to meet any emergent situation.
Meanwhile, MET Director General Arif Mehmood said the pre-monsoon showers would continue in different parts of the country for the next two days, at least.
Talking to a private news channel, Mehmood said rain and thunderstorms are also expected in upper Sindh, south-eastern Balochistan, southern Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said the pre-monsoon rains, which had already begun in Lahore, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday, would continue till June 16, and start in Sindh from June 17.
He said the rains will result in pleasant weather, to be marked by below-normal temperatures during the period.
Responding to a question, he said monsoon season is expected to begin in the first week of July and will continue for three months.
He said in the past few years, there had been a tendency for sluggish advance of monsoon over some parts of the sub-continent.
The heavy downpour in upper parts triggered floods and increased water reservoirs.
