The Supreme Court on Friday disposed of a case regarding the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) while directing the ministry of petroleum to ensure transparency in awarding any quota in the future.
The case was heard by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Gulzar Ahmed.
During the course of hearing of the multi-billion dollar LNG quota case, the bench disposed it of while issuing directives to the petroleum ministry to be more vigilant and ensure transparency and merit while awarding any quota in future.
Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the Petroleum Ministry apprised the court that the ministry was yet to complete the process of lawmaking in the regard.
However, he assured the court that they would ensure complete transparency in the whole process of re-tendering of the quota.
He further stated that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) gave the approval of earlier quota and admitted that it was not hundred percent transparent and up to the mark.
