Health Secretary Hassan Iqbal paid a surprise visit to the Jinnah Hospital on Thursday evening and inquired about the health of measles affected children under treatment. Talking to the parents of the children, the Health secretary said that the government was providing free treatment facilities to the measles patients and life of every child was precious. The hospital’s MS informed the health secretary that 598 measles affected children had been brought to Jinnah Hospital from January 2013 till date, out of which 370 children had not been inoculated. Iqbal said that government was taking important steps for restructuring the EPI programme and making it foolproof. Iqbal said that media was playing an important role for creating awareness among the people. He said that as a result of governmental measures, substantial decrease in measles patient was being witnessed. He said that anti-measles campaign was being launched in 18 more sensitive districts of the province from June 24.
