23 more peacocks die, toll mounts to 41

The dreadful viral disease ‘Ranikhet’ resulted in the death of 23 more peacocks in on Thursday raising the overall toll to 41.

It should be mentioned that various areas of Tharparkar are in the grip of bird’s viral disease ‘Ranikhet’.

During the last six days, 41 peacocks have died of the disease in Nangar Parkar, Mithi, Sarjani and Dabri areas. Tehsil Daiplo was affected the most where 31 birds have died so far. Despite the critical situation, the wildlife department has taken no effective measures to stop the deadly disease. The people of Tharparkar who love peacocks, also the identity of the area, have expressed their anger over the lack of interest in concerned department to deal with the disease.

They said dozens of other peacocks were also affected by the disease and it is feared that the toll may rise further as no step has been taken to overcome the problem.

On the other hand, the wildlife department officials claimed that they had started vaccination of the peacocks and solid steps were being taken to bring ‘Ranikhet’ under control.
