Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan on Thursday stressed upon the new government to fulfill its election promises instead of disappointing the people through their statements.
Talking to JI workers from Mianwali attending the JI central workshop at Mansoora, he said the nation fully knew the mess that had been created by the outgoing rulers and it would take time to correct the situation. However, he said, if the new government was able to grapple with the demon of corruption, more than 50 percent of the problems would be solved.
Munawar Hasan further said that within a fortnight of the takeover of the new government, its ministers had started issuing statements that were causing disappointment among the people. This was bound to create hatred for the rulers among the people, he warned.
He said the rulers of a nation under heavy debt should not travel in long queues of limousines. They should adopt austerity, cut down the unnecessary spending and serve the masses in true spirit and make honest efforts to solve the problems facing the country and the nation.
‘ANTI-PEOPLE BUDGET’
JI’s General Secretary Liaqat Baloch termed the federal budget as anti-people which had “demolished” the hopes of the masses.
In a statement, he said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s hastily prepared budget carried the seals of the IMF and the World Bank and the goal before it seemed to be to be “wipe out the poor and not poverty.”
He said that if the PML-N had any love for the people, it would have to bring forth a new budget within three months, in line with its economic strategy and its priorities should be to overcome the energy crisis, ensure smooth supply of POL and CNG, reducing the prices of basic food items such as flour, pulses, ghee, sugar, besides increasing the salaries of the government employees.
