Focusing on development projects, the government on Wednesday earmarked a total of Rs 1,155 billion for public sector development in the budget for the fiscal year 2013-14, presented in the National Assembly by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
The figure shows a 32 percent increase compared to the amount set aside for the purpose in the outgoing fiscal year.
According to budgetary documents, overall development program comprises Rs 540 billion for the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and Rs 615 billion for Provincial Annual Development Program (ADPS).
The development breakup for 2012-13 was approved at Rs 360 billion for PSDP and Rs 513 billion for ADPS, a total Rs 873 billon.
Per budgetary documents, Rs 115 billion has been proposed for new development initiatives, Rs 50 billion for special programs and Rs 10 billion has been fixed for Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA).
Of the Rs 540 billion set aside for PSDP, Rs 57.84 billion will go to Water and Power Division, Rs 52.3 billion to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Rs 2.179 billion to Cabinet Division, Rs 1.505 billion to Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Rs 58.8 million for Climate Change Division and Rs 841 million for Commerce Division.
The government further allocated Rs 109 million for Communication Division (excluding NHA), Rs 3.545 billion for Defense Division, Rs 2.3 billion for Defense Production Division, Rs 104 million for Economic Affairs Division, Rs 5.24 billion for Education and Training Division, Rs 79.4 million for Establishment Division, Rs 31.3 million for Federal Tax Ombudsman, Rs 13.074 billion for Finance Division and Rs 255 million for Foreign Affairs Division.
Meanwhile, Rs 30.96 billion has been allocated for Railway Division, Rs 2.172 billion for Science and Technology Research Division, Rs 533.3 million for Revenue Division, Rs 18.5 billion for States and Frontier Regions Division, Rs 220 million for Statistics Division and Rs 315 million for Textile Industry Division.
In addition, the government fixed Rs 3.780 billion for Housing and Works Division, Rs 18.49 billion for Higher Education Commission (HEC), Rs 779.8 million for Industries Division, Rs 78 million for Human Rights Division, Rs 492.8 million for Information and Broadcasting Division, Rs 29.59 billion for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Rs 2.36 billion for Law and Justice Division and Rs 326 million for Narcotics Control Division.
Among corporations, the government allocated Rs 51.443 billion to WAPDA and Rs 63.038 billion to National Highway Authority (NHA) whereas Rs 5 billion has been fixed for special programs.
Moreover, Rs 10.658 billion has been mandated for Planning and Development Division, Rs 50 million for Petroleum and Natural Resources Division, Rs 316 million for Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Rs 6.259 billion for Interior Division and Rs 927.1 million has been fixed for Information Technology and Telecom Division.
