Three more give up their ghosts to measles

Three more children died of measles in the city on Tuesday, taking the overall measles death toll in Punjab to 157.

Two children died at Mayo Hospital while the third child succumbed to the disease in Jinnah Hospital.

On the other hand, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has warned that it would initiate action against the chief minister and Punjab health minister if more children died due to measles.

Justice Khalid Mahmood said that children are dying on daily basis, but the Health Department was engaged in formalities.

During the last 24-hours 211 new cases of measles were reported from Punjab, including 24 from the city hospitals. The total number of measles cases during the last six month has reached 17,046 in the province.

Extended Programme for Immunization (EPI) Focal person Dr Younas said that the Health Department has decided to launch anti-measles drive in high risk districts from tomorrow, adding that the required material has been dispatched to EDOs of the relevant districts.
