Senior police authorities took on Wednesday action and suspended five policemen who entered houses and tortured women in the city after protests against load shedding.

Earlier, frustrated with the unannounced and prolonged load shedding, residents of various areas of Faisalabad took to streets on Tuesday and held violent protests.

The police, to disperse the enraged protestors, fired tear shells which led to clashes and in return they pelted stones at police.

Protestors also burnt tyres and blocked several roads of Faisalabad while police used baton charging to disperse them.

Police also entered houses of several residents of the city with the intention to make arrests. The police also assaulted women and used profanity. When the matter was raised at the highest level, the authorities suspended five personnel for entering houses illegally.
