District govt advocates power production from Lusar methane

The Rawalpindi district government on Tuesday decided to send a summary advocating power generation from methane gas in Lusar commercially to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rashid Mehmood Langrial visited the Lusar dumping site and directed the concerned authorities to complete the digging of seven wells and then install a network for obtaining gas.

He said that it has been estimated that five to 10 megawatts (MW) can be generated from Lusar. The district government is evaluating its feasibility by using the gas to generate power on an experimental basis. They have chalked out a plan to supply electricity to Lusar village initially.
