- Teachers demand formation of judicial commission to probe irregularities
- Aitchison College management ‘harasses’ teachers to vacate their houses, a teacher alleges
The recently sacked Aitchison College teachers have demanded that a judicial commission be constituted to probe into the ‘illegal’ termination of teachers.
Recently, more than 70 teachers of the city’s Aitchison College were fired without a show-cause notice. The teachers also staged a protest against their termination.
ALL FOR A POLITICAL MOTIVE?: Talking to Pakistan Today, a senior faculty member of the college said, “We all are educationists and don’t have any political motives or backgrounds nor do we have a union or association amongst the faculty of Aitchison College. Many of us assumed senior positions at the college and some of us are even recipients of Best Teacher of Year award. I cannot comprehend the motive behind such an illegal act.”
He said that the college’s principal had made this move on a very crucial point in time when the democratic transition from one government to another was taking place.
He said, “We are given to understand that this large scale termination has been done in order to bring and accommodate their close relations and politically affiliated people to occupy the important places in the college. It is very alarming to note that just before the entry test for the new admission all senior teachers have been removed so that the college authorities can facilitate their close relatives and influential people in violation of the college admission policy.”
He added, “It is now the responsibility of the new government to look into this matter. We are educationists and we hope for justice. This is not done!”
IN CONTEMPT OF COURT:
According to sources, the principal had acted against the court orders. Among those who have been terminated are some of the teachers who have been recently reinstated in service by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
Sources said that the principal had terminated the teachers despite of the fact that the matter was still pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in contempt application against the principal for not implementing the order of the Supreme Court.
MANAGEMENT HARASSES TEACHERS:
A senior teacher of the college told Pakistan Today that the administration was pressurizing them to vacate their houses while they had also been barred from entering the college premises.
“This is hooliganism. The college management has barred our entry in the college. What have we done to deserve this kind of harsh behavior from the administration?” he said.
He claimed that the college management was ‘harassing’ the teachers and forcing them to vacate the residences. “It is creating a lot of embarrassment for our families and innocent children,” he said.
‘WAS I NOT GOOD ENOUGH?’:
A teacher Muhammad Asif said that he had been given the responsibility to work as acting headmaster for last 3 years at Senior School along with Muhammad Yousaf Kamal, a senior English teacher, and Manzar Ali Khan, Head of Physics Department and coordinator A-Level.
“Why would the administration sack me after giving me such a responsibility? I have performed well during my career and this sudden termination has raised a number of questions on the credibility of the administration. This should be inquired,” said Asif.
A senior faculty member said that this was a huge test case and a challenge for the newly elected government to look into this serious issue where merit was being flouted. “It is strongly recommended that a judicial commission be constituted in order to look into these irregularities. We urge the high authorities for form a committee in order to monitor the transparency/merit of the new admissions as well,” he said.
It is an appalling action taken by the Principal and the support of the Governor. To treat a teacher in this manner shows very little humanity and credibility in a persons character. All these teachers should be reappointed with immediate effect and the Pribcipal should be given his marching orders. The Gov talk about dead wood and then he appoints the oldest erratic personality look after the College's affairs. I am Governor sahib you have been very poorly educated and don't deserve to be an Aitchisonian. We Aitchisonians have great respect for teachers and don't treat them with contempt like this.
Bring back all the staff and terminate all new senior appointments made by this Principal since taking over Jan.

Apparantly it seems that decision is cruel but believe me it is perhaps one of the most desired steps required currently. You perhaps do not have a bit of an idea how most of the teachers (except very few) were corrupt. My teaching experience at Aitchison for more than 3/4 years was the most horrible one in the company of many of these people where every minute rather second they were enjoying after paining people. most of the JUNIOR SCHOOL STAFF led by AZRA HABIB was the mastermind. They know the art of lying and spoiling the social reputation of people under command. Being senior members they had a nasty monopoly because they were even least qualified in academics, mentally sick and by all means accepting bribery in the name of gifts etc making Aitchison the most wicked place on earth perhaps. Slapping and physical beating in Junior school by a number of these old teachers was a common feature and I being their colleague was a witness. What else I can say except that although I resigned respectfully to save my social standing because I came to know before hand about their evil plans. But I was so badly humiliated and badly by Headmaster and Deputy Headmistress you cannot imagine. Headmaster Junior School even did not pay respect to the Holy Quran that I was holding at one time; he ridiculed me, looking at Holy Quran some times and sometimes to me in the presence of an old teacher who behaved his tout. Can you accept that in Pakistan somebody orders you not to offer Zuhar prayer because you are in Aitchison and standing on barrier is important than offerig the prayer? Later after duty Zuhar prayer time was ended. There are long stories. I am not happy by this action but remember because of some of them I have left Pakistan. May Allah Almighty forgive me if I stated something exaggerated.

Being aitchisonian i have great regard for teacher .One should respect teacher who taught you 12 years. You wer teacher only for few years . what about who taight this this school from 15 to 35 years If they are dead wood then principla is decay wood who is above 80 years . Why he should not remove from school and being some young man asa principal .This is just making money after removing the teacher in new admission . I will say someone respect teacher

You must know this that the SMT was formed by the same administration some years back and Mam Azra Habib was nominated head by Mr. Khan and his companions including Ashaq Hussain, the former HM.

The best decision ever!!!. The terminated staff is one of the most ill-reputed bunch of corrupt, incompetent bunch who ran their own tuition centers and coerced students into attending them. Used to go to classes to sit it out and motivate them to their academies. People with the weakest backgrounds who blocked the ways of younger staff and formed groups within for protecting their interests. One really has to be an Aitchisonian or if one is not one then he or she is highly encouraged to speak to a current student to know how these people destroyed Aitchison for personal gains in recent years. Brave decision Sir Shamim!

If you were in aitchison in the last 5 years you would realize to what an extent it had fallen after sir shamim . He does what is in interest of the college
Whatever someone calls him, I will say at least he is not worse than many terminated old staff members. Debate should be based upon logic, not on the basis of personal likes or dislikes. What benefit someone get by disrespecting a sitting senior official? It is perhaps a typical local culture.

I am shocked to read ure words that means when ure parents get old than they become corupt and ill reputed,and secondly for ure kind information most of the teachers are young and are in the age group of 30-40.So be a true Aitchisonian dear.
My two sons are studying in the school and are very up -set because their favourite teachers are terminated and they are below 40. I was shocked to know their names because they bring a gr8 change in my kids.So i request to sort out the issue and reinstate the teachers.
Brave Decision or not! But in the present circumstances the sacking of such a large number of teachers would create a void that would be difficult to fill in the next two months before the college restarts. These teachers were running tution centres but so were other teachers who have not been terminated. Moreover, being an ex- aitchisonian i know from my days at the college that Shamim Khan has a tendency to hire Anglicized teachers as well as Foreign ones. However, lets hope that the issue is sorted out quickly otherwise the studies of the students would be affected.

Read comments of all i will it is bid dilemma .There are many who are innocent and respectful teacher .But the way shimim khan terminated this is not fair and never happen in the history of teaching .Chief minister should take action an reinstate all teacher and then make a inquiry to know the facts . Many teachers are near retirement or going to be retire within two years . They should not be punished like this way. They should be retired in honorable way. Shamim khan who has no family should be sent back to his home as his age now to retire .
I Think its just based on personal likeness and dis likeness, Aitchison`s teachers are very respectful, they are very honest to their work but their termination decision is shame full for the principle and bursar, they just promote their own refrancess, as Teacher zeba in junior school (M.A Islamiat Fail) still on Job and the rest of competent Teachers are at home

GOD knew what is true but think about what was going wrong that time when these teacher was in there that's is not fair running academy if you are teacher in school… they should teach there student free …. if there student need help…………… think about it …..
some of the incompetent people have taken the charge of controller examination,who are neither fluent nor any impressive teaching rapo,for example Mr Turabi in prep school,becoz my son sat in the admission test and Mr Turabi was yelling like to be seated boyz……..Its a shamefull fact,The principal raise a question mark on the college stature,after calling his 10,20,30 years old teahers garbage or dead wood,that means a highly respectable profession is badly humiliated by the Principal,he is old and out of senses.The old teachers are asset and real glory of aitchison,all teachers should be reinstated as soon as possible.
Aitchisonian wake up, if u want to bring the ture spirit of Aitchison then call all the teachers back specially in junior school,where garison spirit is promoted by the newly appointed headmistress fatima mubeen,who declared a colour day on the last day of final exams,and disturb the student's attention,she is taking the teachers of Garison to make her team,the roots like azra habib, madam yasmine and madam rohee were terminated,she manupilated with the Principal,Same is the case wid Prep school Amir hussain who has been terminated many times during his teaching tanure in college wants to appoint the teachers from city and sicas and kicked out many competent teachers.to take his revenge.The principal appointed him as the Headmaster.So wake up to save the Aitchison College.
1 Important thing no body know that Rajasaf was a right hand person of bursar and principal. He have a ugly spirit and mentally sick , her daughter Ms. Zeba (teacher junior School M.A Islamist Fail) is working in junior School and competent teachers were Sack, not only in the teaching Staff the rest of College Staff is also Suffering from Mr. Rajasaf, who used to offer every Year Haj and after that do wrong acts. According to Heaidth its the great Sign of Qayamat that a person Support his own relatives in a business and harm full for others. if 1 Muslim is harm full for other Muslim than his Haj , Namaz is use less. Be care full Mr. Rajasif and M. Bursar Aitchison College open your eyes before they will close for your death
well i know tution centers were running during the late 80's and early 90's as well and final exam papers were given to the students who would get tutions from teachers, i have a lot of respect for my teachers but there are good ppl and there are bad ppl but the then principal, Mr. Quershi should have known about this and everyone involved would be in agreement with this coz students of Aitichison College come from wealthy families and this was some of the teacher's ways to get gifts (they won't ask for it, but parents would forcefully give it to them, this was JUST OUT OF RESPECT for them) i had been witness as my father used to give it to several teachers and none of the teachers would agree to accept it, they would simply refuse it but i came to know about this tution center and GUESS PAPER thing when i was in MIH in 1991
