Announcing its shadow budget a day before the federal budget is to be presented, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) said minimum wage should be Rs15,000.
The party called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to adopt this shadow budget. The Rs 4 trillion shadow budget aims at tackling unemployment, inflation, poverty and power crisis across Pakistan.
The MQM claimed that if the shadow budget was implemented as it is, all problems it targets would come to an end.
The shadow budget which puts the total deficit to only Rs 725 billion – much lesser than the actual deficit for last year Rs 1,303 billion – calls for tax collection from feudal, agriculturists and industrialists.
The party leaders said the salaried-class paid more taxes than the resource-owning elite of the country.
The budget also called for increase in the salary and pension of government employees by 15 percent.
The shadow budget says that petroleum levy should be abolished and sales tax should be reduced to 10 percent from current 16 percent.
In total, the budget proposed Rs 250 billion for water, energy and higher education.
