Food Dept procures 3,662,000 tonnes of wheat

The Punjab Food Department has so far procured 3,662,000 tonnes of wheat against the set target of 4 million tonnes during the current wheat procurement drive.

Punjab Food Director captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis said the wheat procurement process would be completed in a few days. He hoped the procurement target would be achieved and arrangements had also been made for storing wheat.

The director said that officials of the department would visit wheat storage centers to review arrangements for the rainy season. Farmers are getting good rates of more than Rs 1,200 per 40 kg of the commodity, he added. He said that food requirement of Punjab was 2.8 million tonnes and the department had a wheat stock of more than 4 million tonnes.
