Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz said on Tuesday that the authority is taking effective measures for promoting trade and economic activities in the federal capital.

He said that due to the population increase the authority is looking to enhance business activities, adding that the CDA has extended the Blue Area and other developed sectors of the city to offer commercial plots through open bidding.

Tahir Shahbaz said that the CDA has finalised arrangements for auctioning the commercial plots in Sector I-12 Markaz and other developed sectors.

He said that Sector I-12’s strategic location of being a gateway between Islamabad and Rawalpindi made it perfect to serve as an economic base for commercial activities as it was also important for businessmen from Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Punjab and Kashmir.

He said that the auction’s purpose was to meet the city’s future requirements as Islamabad is expanding rapidly, adding that there were 52 commercial plots in total in Markaz I-12, each of 1096 square yards.

The CDA chairman said that the construction of business centres would not only boost business activities but would also strengthen the economy and employment opportunities.

He said that Markaz I-12’s design theme would be Twin-City Saddar Market, in which all four provinces of Pakistan would be represented with a fifth block representing Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said that all the blocks have been interconnected to facilitate pedestrians. He further said that two plots for hotels, and one for a mosque had been planned.

The chairman said that complete civic facilities would be provided including clean drinking water, playground, hospital, sewerage treatment plant, toilets, emergency and disaster management centre, police station and enquiry facilities.
