Punjab government’s newly-appointed adviser Azmul Haq is all set to step into Senator Pervez Rasheed’s shoes.
Sources in the Punjab government disclosed that the adviser was likely to run the Information Department in coming days with Rasheed’s appointment as federal information minister.
Haq, originally from showbiz and advertising, is not a well-known figure in the party. But those who know him say that he had been quite active in party meetings for sometime and was often seen with Rasheed.
At the provincial secretariat he is considered close to the Sharifs with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif having great faith in him.
Meanwhile, Raja Ishfaq Sarwar will not be happy with this decision. He is the party’s provincial secretary general and has been given the Labour Department with a very limited scope and mandate.
The person who emerged as most powerful after the distribution of portfolios is Rana Sanaullah. It shows his influence in the party. He has been given two important portfolios – law and local government ministries.
The PML-N circles say that in the power game he has turned tables on Rana Mashhood, who was also eyeing the law ministry
Mashhood has been given Education, youth sports and Youth Affairs ministries. These are all very lucrative ministries.
