Mohammad Khan Achakzai, an economist and elder brother of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, was appointed Governor Balochistan on Tuesday.
The appointment came with an approval from President Asif Ali Zardari following an advice from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Mohammad Khan, son of Pakhtun nationalist leader Khan Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai, started his career as a lecturer of economics and later joined the Balochistan University’s economics department as assistant professor. He joined the Planning Commission of Pakistan and retired a few years ago as chief economist in Grade-22.
He belongs to a strong Pashtun nationalist family who fought against the English colonial rulers and then struggled to acquire usurpation rights for the Pashtuns within the framework of Pakistan.
His father, Khan, spent 33 years in jail during his struggle against the English colonial rulers and later the military dictators in independent Pakistan.
