The Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) has appealed to the government for urgent measures to protect drivers of public vehicles against the high handedness of dacoits.

In a joint statement, KTAC President Mohammad Ashraf Banglori and its other office-bearers including Chaudhri Mazhar Hussain, Tanzeem Khan and Mazhar Banglori drew attention of the authorities towards loot and plunder that had allegedly become a norm on northern by-pass.

They demanded that not only the patrolling by police officials be increased but a police check post must also be established there so as to help protect the precious human lives and their hard earned money.

They alleged that looters and dacoits were witnessed forcing the vehicles to stop and snatching cash from the conductors with absolute impunity.

While any resistance shown by drivers or conductors results in gun shot injuries or their killing, they maintained.

The Karachi Transport Action Committee also urged the IGP to see that efficient members of police force were deputed for patrolling and those found to be lethargic and indifferent to their professional responsibilities must be removed.

They regretted that despite frequent instances of loot and plunder at the northern by-pass and registration of the complaints by victims not a single culprit could be apprehended by the area police.
