At least eight peacocks died in two days in various areas of Tharparkar due to Ranikhet, a contagious disease.
According to wildlife department sources, eight peacocks died of Newcastle disease, locally known as Ranikhet, while several others were also reported to be infected in Tehsil Daplipo of Tharparkar.
The wildlife department has confirmed the deaths of eight peacocks.
The local people have expressed grave concerns over the deaths of their beloved birds. They said the disease-inflicted birds had stopped drinking water a few days ago and it was feared that the toll may rise further as many peacocks were reportedly infected with the disease.
