PPP to appoint Azra Fazal Pechuho as PAC chief

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) decided to appoint Dr Azra Afzal Pechuho as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson on Sunday.
The parliamentary watchdog is responsible for examining that funds appropriated by the National Assembly (NA) are rightly used for government’s expenditure.
Earlier this week, PPP nominated Khursheed Shah as leader of the opposition in NA. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq declared Shah the opposition leader on June 7.
The PPP, during its previous tenure, had started a new trend whereby leader of opposition was appointed chairperson of the PAC also.
Former opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan headed PAC during the PPP government but resigned after differences with the government over appointment of a handpicked auditor general of Pakistan.
