Dr Abdul Malik Baloch was elected the Balochistan chief minister unopposed on Saturday.
Dr Baloch, the joint candidate of PML-N, PkMAP and PML-Q) was nominated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the top provincial slot. Although Abdul Rehman Khetran obtained the nomination papers, but did not submit them.
Dr Baloch visited the residence of JUI-F’s parliamentary leader Abdul Wasey and sought the support of his party over his election as leader of the house. In return, Wasey announced that his party would not field a candidate against Dr Baloch.
The JUI-F leader told reporters, “It is the tradition of Balochistan that whenever one visits someone’s house and asks for something the latter is bound not to disappoint the former. Dr Abdul Malik visited me and asked for support in his election as leader of the house and we keeping in view our tradition are bound to support him.”
Dr Baloch will be declared as the leader of the house in the assembly session summoned for the election of the leader of the house on Sunday (today). He would be sworn in by Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi in the evening at Governor’s House.
Earlier, talking to media after submitting his nomination papers, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said that he would encourage new generation of Balochistan towards education, adding that the people of Balochistan had been subjected to numerous excesses and he would make all the efforts to stop the perpetuation of further excesses.
Dr Baloch was of the view that a strategy had already been in place for negotiations with dissident Baloch leaders and separatists, adding that the federal government and the prime minister had already assured him to implement that strategy.
He also urged political parties to come together for resolving the issues of Balochistan and expressed his optimism that the media would assist them in this regard and would highlight their weaknesses.
The NP leader said that he would make all efforts possible to end issues of missing persons, targeted and sectarian killings and kidnapping for ransom. He said that all three coalition partners would sit together to find out solution of the issues confronted by the people of the province.
He said that the government would sit with the national and international experts to prepare the budget of the province, adding that neither they themselves would involve in any malpractices nor would they allow others to do so.
How come every one gets "elected" unopposed these days? It is an "election" or "selection"? And have all opposition parties forgotten the meaning of "opposition"?
Come on guys, at least give this fake democracy some surkhi-powder even just for pretend play….
