Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Thursday guaranteed provision of protection to the business community in the province.
Addressing the oath taking ceremony of the newly-elected office bearers of the legislature’s press gallery, he said establishment of peace is the top-most priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in the province.
KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi and Secretary Amanullah Khan and a large number of the members of the press gallery were present on the occasion.
Qaiser said the provincial government would bring reforms in police and will also improve intelligence sharing.
He further said the government will show zero-tolerance for those involved in heinous crimes of kidnapping for ransom and robberies. He said in case of any police mismanagement, the concerned police official will be taken to task.
The KP speaker and PTI provincial president went on to say that other priorities of the PTI government included education and health sectors, adding that significant funds would be allocated to bring tangible improvement in these sectors.
He said members of the provincial assembly will visit hospitals personally to keep a check on the standard of treatment facilities and ensuring improvement.
Qaiser also said work on the budget for the next financial year was underway on a war footing and expressed confidence that all electoral commitments with the people will be met.
He said the government will be responsible for the misdeeds and illegal use of powers by any of its legislators and official functionaries.
Asad Qaiser said the government had also started work on resolving the energy crisis and had already held a meeting with concerned authorities in this connection.
He said following party policy, the provincial government will soon initiate mega energy projects for production of 20,000 MW of electricity during the next ten years, which will be much higher than the demand.
He said the PTI government is adopting austerity measures, adding that he had himself donated his salary to Shaukat Khanam Memorial Hospital. He said although the province is passing through a difficult phase, the new government is ready to face any challenge with the aim of turning it into an opportunity.
Qaiser congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the legislature’s press gallery and directed the KP Assembly secretary to sit with them to resolve all problems they faced.
Earlier, the newly elected president of the press gallery, Zahir Shah Shirazi, highlighted the problems faced by parliamentary reporters in the assembly and demanded facilities in proportion to those available to parliamentary reporters of the Senate and National Assembly.
