Re-polling on 21 stations of NA-46 starts under heavy security


Re-polling on 21 polling stations of the National Assembly (NA) constituency NA-46, Khyber Agency that was suspended after complaints of irregularities by candidates, started on Wednesday under strict security.
According to Returning Officer Nasir Khan, 24 candidates were in the run for NA-46 while as many as 63,468 voters would cast their ballots in the re-election.
Results from 33 polling stations showed that independent candidate Hamidullah Jan Afridi was leading with 1,683 votes while another independent Nasir Khan was trailing with 1,640 votes.
Strict security arrangements were adopted in Jamrud Tehseel where as many as 20 paramilitary soldiers were deployed at each polling station.
There were 161,727 registered voters in the constituency. However, turnout remained only four percent on May 11 due to security concerns.
