Dr Shaukat Kiani on Wednesday took over the charge of Federal Government Poly Clinic (FGPC) executive director (ED) on the Supreme Court’s orders.

“I restarted my work as Poly Clinic ED after Supreme Court’s suspension order of transfers, postings, deputations and termination of contracts made by the caretaker government,” Dr Shaukat Kiani confirmed.

He assured that he would work to provide the best health care services to patients. On-going projects would be completed punctually while new development projects would be launched for the hospital’s uplift, he added.

The medical and para-medical staff welcomed the Poly Clinic ED back and assured him of their full support. They expressed the hope that Dr Kiani would continue the efforts he had started for providing better medical care services to patients and would complete the hospital’s extension plan.

Yang Shu, a Chinese professor who studies unrest in Xinjiang, said the recent violence reflected Uighur grievances about social inequalities and dislocation driven by economic modernization, the spreading influence of militant currents of Islam and the deterioration of ethnic relations since 2009. In July 2011, 18 people died when rioters in Hotan stormed a police station.
