The federal capital’s only zoo, Marghzar Zoo lacks prominent animals, leading to declining incentives for citizens to visit and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken no steps to counter this.

Marghzar Zoo still has no lion, leopards, snakes and giraffes. Many cages have been vacant for the past several years due to CDA’s inattention.

Many people expressed disappointment at the zoo’s condition, calling on the zoo authorities to house more popular animals to draw in visitors.

Visitors from Gujar Khan said that the zoo appeared deserted and incomplete without these animals and they urged the CDA to improve the dismal situation.

A CDA official said that the authority was fully aware of the situation and was taking measures to bring more animals and birds to the zoo. He added, “Animals and birds are hiding in their cages due to the rising heat, which explais why the zoo appears so desolate.”

He said the Marghzar Zoo project was under progress and eventually, it would have a great variety of animals. In this regard, the CDA had awarded a tender to contractors for the zoo’s renovation and all prominent animals would be brought right after the contractors’ quotations short listing.

Further, a security system would be installed at the zoo including walk through gates and security cameras. The tube-well, water tank and sector F-8 enclosure retaining wall would also be repaired.
