Although the parliamentary party of the newly-elected Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has yet to decide the portfolios for party leaders in the Sindh cabinet, the influential leaders are much faster in occupying well-decorated ministers’ offices at the Sindh Secretariat.
The PPP leaders are reportedly confused as to how to allot the portfolios to the newly-elected members, particularly to those who shifted their loyalties and announced joining the PPP in the recent past, reliable sources told Pakistan Today.
After the elections on May 11, the PPP leadership nominated Qaim Ali Shah as the chief executive of the province besides five others – Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Manzoor Wassan – who were inducted in the initial cabinet. However, only Sharjeel Memon was allotted the portfolio of information.
Interestingly, the powerful members of the cabinet forcefully occupied well-decorated offices at the New Sindh Secretariat building on first-come-first-occupy basis.
Hazar Khan Bijarani occupied office at the second floor of New Sindh Secretariat building while Manzoor Wassan and Nisar Ahmed Khurho occupied offices on fourth and fifth floors of the buildings respectively, this scribe learnt after he personally visited various offices.
It was also witnessed that a simple printed out material was written that included the name of ministers without any portfolios mentioned against them. The ministers were also attending their offices on daily basis, the local staff said.
The sources disclosed there was a clash inside the PPP ranks that whom the major portfolio be allotted so that it could give its best in the province to avoid further loss that the party had suffered at the hands of voters. The PPP will make public names of more cabinet members in few days.
