Memogate Case: SC orders Hussain Haqqani to appear before court in 4 weeks

While presiding over a 9-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC), during the Memogate scandal hearing on Tuesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said,”one remains innocent unless any allegation is proven against him”

Asma Jahangir, advocate counsel for Hussain Haqqani appeared before the court, stating that Hussain Haqqani was not ready to come to Pakistan.

CJP remarked, “Haqqani had himself promised to come to Pakistan and he should now deliver on his promise”.

Asma Jahangir said that she had spoken repeatedly to her client but he was still having security concerns.

The court further directed interior ministry to take measures for the return of Hussain Haqqani to Pakistan in four weeks whilst providing fool proof security.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for four weeks.
